NEXGEN STEM ACADEMY

@ SALISBURY MIDDLE SCHOOL
Building the Next Generation of Leaders Inspired by Curiosity, Creativity, and Innovation.
ABOUT NEXGEN

OUR MISSION

The NexGen STEM Academy at Salisbury Middle School seeks to build the next generation of leaders that are inspired to assess and solve community and global problems collaboratively through curiosity, creativity, and innovation.

ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES

One of the central focuses of the NexGen STEM Academy is the study of the environment and the natural world throughout all of our courses.  Our studies integrate content within the humanities, social sciences, engineering, mathematics, and natural sciences to give students the tools they need to examine complex environmental issues in depth and assess them from a variety of perspectives that will ultimately lead to student designed solutions. In addition to instruction within the classroom, and the NexGen Laboratory for Agriculture and the Environment (NLAE), the NexGen STEM Academy provides opportunities for extensive experiential learning within the field.  Frequent opportunities for research and community engagement provide our students with a substantial foundation for further study at the high school level and beyond.

Nature Connections

Throughout the course of the year, students have the opportunity to connect with nature beyond the time they spend during the school day through the text, The Nature Connection, by Claire Walker Leslie. Students utilize this text throughout the year and carry it over all three years that they are enrolled  in the NexGen STEM Academy. The book allows students to explore the natural world right outside their own door in a creative and educational way. Monthly assignments consist of various activities taken from the book. It is a great resource for the student to enjoy.
